FUNERAL FOR MRS CALHOUN HELD SATURDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Ross Calhoun, 60, life-long resident of the area, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Rev. O. Leonard Nelson officiated at the rites and burial was in Riverview cemetery. McCullough's Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Calhoun died suddenly of a heart attack following a week's illness with pleurisy at the Calhoun home southwest of Algona Wednesday night.
Florence Jenny, daughter of Patrina and Victor Johnson, was bornMay3, 1896, here. She graduated from Algona high school in 1916 and taught rural school for a while. She was married to Ross Calhoun February28,1917, at the Johnson home and the young couple lived on a farm in Plum Creek township, before moving to their home in Cresco township inJanuary1952.
Mrs. Calhoun was active in Missions, Sarah circle and ladies aid of the Lutheran church and a long-time member of the Plum Creek Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband, a daughter, Mrs. William Kessinger,Carlinville, Ill. and a son Marvin, Algona. Five sisters also survive,Mrs. James Davidson, Sioux Falls, So. Dakota.; Mrs. Karl Anderson, Wahoo, Nebr.; Mrs. Evelyn Sorensen, Pequot Lakes, Minn.; and Mrs. Kenneth Seely,Algona. Other survivors include five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and a daughter, Mrs. Elgena Baas.
Pallbearers at the funeral were John Penton, Harry Alt, Walter Zentner, John Simon, Bob Harvey, and Wayne Brown.
