Harriett Gunn Tebbs, one of the pioneer residents of Goldendale, passed away on April 13th, after having been confined to bed for an extended period of time, having broken her hip in December, 1945.
She was born in Wine Harbor, Nova Scotia, May 1st 1866, the daughter of Peter and Caroline Fraser Gunn. The family moved to Dixon California in 1973, and to Klickitat county in 1878.
When she came to the Klickitat Valley, her first home was a small log cabin. She and her little sister Millie Jean, trudged across miles of open prairie to go to school.
She continued her education attending Willamette University, and graduated with honors. For many years she taught in the town and rural schools of the county. An able and inspiring teacher she often received letters and personal visits from former students, as expressions of gratitude.
She was married in 1904 to Elmer E. Hinshaw, who passed away in 1907. Their son Kenneth Hinshaw became a leader in the 4-H Club work.
In 1911, she wa married to Daniel F. Tebbs. With her husband, she was long active in the Order of the Eastern Star. She took great interest in the Klickitat County Pioneer Society. She is survived by her husband Daniel F. Tebbs, her son, Kenneth Hinshaw of Agawam, Mass; and her sister Millie Jean Gunn, of Goldendale.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Phillips Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bruce Groseclose officiating. Pall Bearers were Gerald Fenton, C.W. Ramsey, Fuller McEwen, Walter Norris, Orville Hamilton and William Lear.
Internment was made in the family plot in the I.O.O.F cemetery.
