John Burlend Yelliott was born 28 January 1844 in Detroit, Pike Co., Illinois to Luke, II and Mary Hall (Burlend) Yelliott. He was the twin brother of Annetta Yelliott. He lived with his parents in Detroit, Pike Co., Illinois until he joined the 73rd Illinois Infantry Company H as a private on 8 August 1862 in Pike Co., Illinois. He was mustered out of service on 12 June 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee. He would spend the remainder of his life in Montezuma, Pike Co., Illinois. On 1 October 1868 in Milton, Pike Co., Illinois, John married Hannah Louise Croft. To John and Hannah were born seven children: Rebecca Elizabeth, John Edwin, Mary Alberta, Helen Louise, Nora Violet, George Luke, and William Wesley. He was a farmer and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. John died 13 October 1921 in Milton, Pike Co., Illinois. He was buried 14 October 1921 in Blue River Cemetery, Detroit, Pike Co., Illinois.
