7th of 12 children of Gottleib and Catharina Körner Knoll, he served 3 brutal years compulsary military service and immigrated to USA in 1882.
They had 14 children.
They farmed in Woodford Co. then moved to Vermilion Co. in 1894. The farm continued in the family and became a Centennial Farm in 1993.
Karl Knoll was born January 28, 1858 at Strümpfelbach, Backnang, Württemberg, Germany.
He came to the United States in 1882 and settled near Secor. His brother Christian had emigrated several years earlier and was living in that area.
Karl's parents were Gottlieb and Katherine Koerner Knoll and Katherine's father was Gottlieb Koerner, all of Strümpfelbach. Karl would have liked to come earlier but at age 21 all German men were required to serve in the German Standing Army for 3 years and he couldn't afford to come before age 21.
He married Eva Elizabeth Kief on January 1, 1883.
