John Alsup left Alabama at the age of fourteen and came to Upshur county, TX. He came to Duffau in Erath Co in 1855 and met and married Elizabeth Edwards. They were the first couple to get married in the original court house in Stephenville, TX.
John was listed on the 1857 tax roll and was one of the first grand jurors in 1869. They had ten children. They moved to a log cabin in the Corinth community in 1872. John died in 1905 and Elizabeth died in 1906.
