Born in Schulits, Posen Province of Prussia to Carl and Elizabeth Hoffman WITT, Tina came to America with her sister Amelia on 4 Apr 1882.

Her passage was paid for by the hard work of her fiance. Gustav Julius Pretzlaff married Tina on 1 Jul 1882 in Sibley, IL. They had 10 children, two of whom took orders in the Lutheran church:
