He married and his first wife died (name unknown) leaving two small children. He married Henricke Hoffman in Prussia on 24 Dec 1854. They had seven more children, two of whom died in Prussia.
The Steinlicht family was located very near the Polish border and the children grew up speaking both Polish and 'High'German. The harsh government and sparse economic opportunity led the older boys to immigrate to USA. In May 1883 Frederick, Henricke and the younger children sailed to America, but on the way, Frederick took ill, died and was buried at sea.
