David Gilbert Martin was a direct descendant of John and Betty More's Jonas line. He was born on 12 December 1938 at Stamford, New York, the sixth of nine children born to Wendall Lincoln Martin and Elizabeth Orleana Sackett Martin. He was raised at Bloomville, New York where his father was owner and operator of a dairy farm and David was a student at South Kortright Central School at Kortright, New York. He and his cousin, William Walter Kearns , were killed instantly following a car accident on Route 10 near Hobart, New York on 11 June 1954. The driver of the vehicle survived but with extensive injuries. A double funeral for David and his cousin was held at First Presbyterian Church at Delhi, New York with burial following at Riverside Cemetery at Bloomville.
