Samuel S. was the son of Charles R & Nancy Angeline (Freeman) Cox. On 1/25/1888 he married Laura J. Roark who was the daughter of Joseph & Georgeann (Alexander) Roark.

By 1900 Samuel & Laura had moved from their home in Vernon County, MO to OK. They were active members of the Missionary Baptist Church. On 4/12/1907, Laura died in child-birth...as did their baby Leonard.

On 11/30/1912 Samuel was united in marriage to Mrs. Louisa Davidson Price.

In the 1920's Samuel became town marshal of Centralia, OK, although he also continued to farm. Samuel & his second family resided on a joint property with his daughter Beulah & her husband Claude Elmer Burns.

On 1/9/1933 Samuel was taken to the Eastern State Hospital in Vinita, OK where 4 days later he passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage. He is buried in the Welch Cemetery next to his first wife, Laura J Roark Cox.
