Norma was born on March 25, 1912 in Oklahoma to Albert Dewitt and Mary Elizabeth Crouse Brogdon. She married Robert Paul Starritt on January 26, 1929 in Quitaque, Briscoe County, Texas. Norma and Bob had three children: Robert Lee, Norma Elizabeth and Wanda Lou.
She dated Feddie (Freddie) Starritt, Robert Paul's brother, before dating Robert Paul. When she first met the parents of Robert Paul as his new bride, the family was upset! She was wearing a flapper dress, short sleeved, tight, short with a belt at the hips. She had her hair bobbed and thought that she looked terrific. The Starritt family was upset because the Starritt women only wore long dresses with long sleeves and never cut their hair.
Her great-grandson, Allan, called Norma MeeMaw. When he was very young he was at her house out in the front yard. The tomatoes were fresh out of the garden and we were getting them ready to can. Allan used the tomatoes as balls and she told him that if he threw one more she was going to spank him. Well, he threw a tomatoe, so she lightly swatted his behind. He laid down on the ground and threw a fit. She put her foot on his butt and told him that she wasn't going to let him up until he was laughing. He started calling her a Mean GrandMa and when he finally started laughing it came out MeeMaw. This name for her stuck from then on.
Norma died on June 6, 1978 in Plainview, Hale County, Texas from a long fight with cancer. She is buried at the Olton Cemetery in Olton, Lamb County, Texas.
She was a great woman and is missed greatly by her family.
