Ronald "Dago" DeBarba, 72, of Berryton, Kansas, formerly of the Westville-Danville, Illinois area, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday (Sept. 23, 2011) at Stormon-Vail Health Care, Topeka, Kansas.

He was born on Oct. 7, 1938 in Danville to Maurice and Martha Johnson DeBarba. His parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Watson. He had previously married Barbara Lewis, and later, he was wed to Deborah Donaldson. In 1984, he was married to Mary Watson. She survives..

He is also survived by his son, Douglas (Carla) DeBarba of Grape Creek; stepsons, Michael (Meagen) Vaughn of Little Elm, Texas; David Gumm of Germany and Richard (Karen) Watson of Berryton, Kansas; stepdaughters, Betty "Sissy" Reynolds of Rossville and Geneva Vaughn of Westville; grandchildren, Douglas DeBarba, Brandy DeBarba, Chaz Vaughn, Zachary Vaughn, Jaiden Vaughn, Mady Beemer, Kailee Beemer, Noah Beemer, Jonah Beemer, MacKenzie Reynolds, Madison Reynolds, Macie Vaughn, Kyra Digby, Colton Digby-Jackett, Harlan Watson, Shelby Watson, Alexis Watson, Emily Watson and Makennah Long and his sister, Sharon Anderson of Greer, S.C.

He began his 34 year law enforcement career in Westville, serving for a time as the Chief of Police. He then went to work at the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department, retiring with the rank of sergeant. He also worked part time at Catlin Police Department.
