She was born October 27, 1876 in Defiance, Ohio to parents Alexander R. Tipton and Martha Robart. She was the middle child of five children. The first two years of her life were spent in Ohio. Then before 1879 her family moved to Michigan. In 1880, her family lived in North Shade located in Gratiot County, Michigan.

She first married Samuel A. Schnepp on June 13, 1893 in Stanton, Montcalm County, Michigan with whom she had one living child, a daughter by the name of Anna May. In 1894, Ida and Samuel lived in Richland, Montcalm County, Michigan with their baby girl.

On February 16, 1897, Ida filed for divorced from Samuel A. Schnepp in the company of a friend by the name of Alex R. Teptoro. Ida stated the cause for divorce was extreme and repeated cruelty. On June 7, 1897 the divorce was granted and declared final. However, I believe the divorce record accidentally mispelled Ida's father's last name, and therefore should have read ... Alex R. Tipton

Ida then remarried Newton G. Clark on December 2, 1898, with whom she had two sons Lynn and Fay. The ceremony was held in Ithaca, Michigan and govern by W. H. Beasley, Justice of the Peace. Both Ida and Newton had lived in Seville at the time of their marriage. Newton held the occupation of a farmer. Newton had been previously married as well. Newton was also granted a divorce June 7, 1897, claiming his wife deserted him.

In 1900, she raised her two sons, daughter and stepson, William G. from Newton's previous marriage on a rented farm in Seville Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. By 1910, the family had moved to a house, which they owned at 218 Gratiot (street or avenue) in Alma's 3rd ward, Gratiot County, Michigan. At that time, Ida worked as a private dressmaker, while also raising her family, as Newton had not been able to find work as a general laborer for the previous 20 months. Yet, Ida may have had a little help with the children, as Newton's widowed mother lived with them.

After all their children had grown and by 1920, Ida and Newton had moved to a rented farm house in Ferris Township, Montcalm County, Michigan, where Newton farmed.

Ida lost her second husband, Newton in 1931.

Ida died on February 6, 1942. She is interred next to her husband Newton G. Clark at the Richland Township Cemetery, Vestaburg, Montcalm County, Michigan. They are buried in the second middle section of the cemetery.
