He was a teacher and guidance counselor for over 30 years, after which he became Councillor and Warden for Richmond County. He was an avid fisherman and his greatest joys in life were his family and his community. He touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of selfless contributions and passionate commitment. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Viola (Samson); his children, Michael (Tyna Hope) and Michelle (Christopher Newell); his grandchildren Nicholas and Aurélia; his sister Cornelia (Johnny Perry) and his brothers Bernard (Diane), Adrian (Eleanor) and Lucien (Diane). Visitation will be on Friday, May 18th from 2-9pm at I.M.L. Funeral Home, Petit De Grat. Funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 19th in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Petit De Grat. A celebration of John's Life will be held in the Centre La Picasse following the service. Private burial to follow at a later date. Condolence From: Jacqueline and Bill Amirault
Chère Viola; Bill brought to my attention John's obituary in the paper this week. From the messages of sympathy on this site, it is obvious that John was a most remarkable man. So many lives touched, so many proud accomplishments, so many memories touching so many people. We never knew John but met you at the VG in December, during my first surgery and were surprised to find you still there in April... Your devotion to John during his hospitalization was inspiring. May he rest in peace and may you and your family find comfort in the prayers and love of so many whose lives he has touched. God bless you. (P.S. I am doing well. Recuperation is on track. Six week check-up this week!) Jacqueline and Bill, Digby

No words can adequately express my sympathy, but please know that many thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and always. Sincerely, Dorothy The Lodge That Gives

My deepest sympathy to you Voila, children, grandchildren, Corneila, Bernard, Adrian, Lucien & families. I have fond memories of John ( Jean ) as he was known when he was little. We would walk to school together with his sister and his brothers, go skating on ponds & sliding down the hill in the winter at his aunt Agatha's house, with other cousins, playing at his house or our house sometimes in Boudreauville. Those are all very fond memories of him. May God grant you Eternal Rest John.

Condolence From: Felix and Linda Sampson
What a treat it was for me to be part of an I.M.D.H team that included the leadership of my friend John Boudreau. For years I had the privilege of watching this selfless, caring and intelligent man shape the lives of those around him. I will always cherish his practical approach, to the many problems that arise in an educational setting. John provided hope to students who felt despair, enlightenment to students confused, but most of all he challenged everyone around him to be more caring human beings. He leaves behind a legacy of service to the various communities he represented, that his family can feel quite proud of. I know Jesus has welcomed John to his heavenly home, acknowledging the work of a faithful servant to his people. Rest in peace my friend.

Dear Viola, Michael and Michelle, John has been a part or my nightly conversations with Mom and Dad for a very long time. Wether it was about my Dad making plans to go cod fishing or squid jigging with him or just to see how he was doing. My husband even got to know John through a few fishing adventures with my Dad. It is obvious from the many many condolences, that John has left his mark on the world in many ways, and will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of meeting him and knowing him. Keep your fond memories close, and let them help you get through this difficult time. We will be thinking of him on June 16th, and missing the friendly greeter at the kids' fishing derby. Prayers to you.

Condolence From: Tina Thibeau Foley
Viola, Michelle, Michael & Families, I am so sorry to hear about John's passing. I had the pleasure of being one of John's student and of working with him on several community initiatives. He was always looking out for Richmond County. I ran into him about a year ago in Halifax. When he found out that I worked for SNSMR, he smiled and started talking about all the good things happening in the County and what we could do to make that even better. He was an incredible man, always giving of himself to help others and to help our community. As a teacher and guidance counsellor, John helped shaped the lives of many students at IMDH and I know many of his former students, myself included, are very grateful to him for his guidance. I know the days and months ahead will not be easy but cherish the memories you have shared together. He loved you guys and loved telling us about what you were up to and how much the grandkids had grown. Sending you lots of hugs. xo Tina & Family

Condolence From: Renee Newell-Boucher
Viola, Michael & Michelle. I am so sad for you loss. I've been reading over the condolences, so many great things to say about John. He was a wonderful man, you have been lucky to have had such a man in your lives. I know he will be dearly missed. Although I didn't know him well, I do have a great memory of John. When Claudia was a baby and we were having Christmas dinner together, she started to cry and wouldn't settle. He took her and walked her around singing to her, and she settled down immediately, he just had that touch. Also, I don't know if I'd be the guitar superstar I am right now, if it wasn't for his guitar! Thinking of you all. Renee and family.

Condolence From: Jackie/Sylvia Hopkins
To Viola and family, our sincere condolences and prayers for your loss. It is difficult to accept that a dear friend and colleague has left us. I have known John for many, many years. First in high school, then university and as a teaching colleague for many years. Throughout this time he has been a loyal and steadfast friend whose life has been spent serving his students and the public and helping everyone he possibly could. He was foremost a loving family man who took great pride in this, the true measure of a man. His encouragement towards his students brought out their best abilities. He took great pride in seeing them achieve. This pride in achievement was transferred to his community and his people and to all of the surrounding communities. Isle Madame and indeed all of Rich. Co. has lost a champion. I have had many occasions to have shared in John's sense of humor. He could always see the humorous side of any situation.Although he is no longer with us, his memory will remain as an indication of what friendship and role models really are. Rest well my friend. The cares of this world are no longer.

It sadens me to hear of the passing of Mr. Boudreau. I am a former student from IMDH class of 97. Having the priveledge of knowing him for the 4 years of high school, John was an amazing person. He helped me through so many obsticles and difficulties throughout my years at IMDH. He never passed judgement on anyone and always gave his extra to help. And he helped me through so much. Fighting cancer myself, I know that it is no easy battle and I know that John gave it its all to the very end. He was a wonderful mentor, friend and teacher. He always spoke kind of everyone, pushed you to succeed, and had a wonderful sense of humor and always managed to put a smile on your face. He will be sadly missed by whomever had the wonderful privledge of knowing him. He was indeed a GREAT man. RIP John!!

Dear Viola and families... It so sad to lose a person who had such a will to live....I felt a small connection to John in few ways... as an educator, he was always there to help me out when I worked at IMDH; Tanya has great memories of him as her guidance counsellor. He was so connected with the development of our communities as I've learned in the many years I've been and continue to be on the DIMA board. Working at the Strait Richmond Hospital for the last couple of years, I know he was extremely well taken care of by the fabulous staff. He will be missed dearly but we will all cherish the memories and try to always live up to his expectations no matter what we do...God bless you all at this time RIP John! Aurine Richard

To the family of John Boudreau and all who knew him: What to say about John? Well, there is one thing that I will never forget. I had applied for a job with Connor Brothers who replaced the Isle-Madame Fisherman Co-op. I did get the position and one day I met John. He said to me "You did get the job". Yes, but I don't know if I will be able to accomplish those responsibilities. His reply was swift and to the point. "You have done very well so far so I have no qualm that you will do just great"! He will be sadly missed by many, he was a very determine man who never took no for an answer and it always ended up in reality for John. He loved his community and worked relentlessly to make it better and succeeded. I am proud of all his accomplishments. Viola, Michael, Michelle & their families. You have stood by John in the best of times as well as during his illness. Let there be no regrets and rest assured that from heaven, he will help you get through this. He is now in peace. Condolence From: Joan Bona
Viola and the Boudreau family: I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. What a remarkable teacher he was! John inspired, encouraged, guided and led so many of us to succeed in life. He was always positive and challenged us beyond our own expectations. When I think of John and of his accomplishments through time I'm reminded of the following poem: THE MEASURE OF A MAN Author: Anonymous Not - How did he die? But - How did he live? Not - What did he gain? But - What did he give? These are the things that measure the worth Of a man as a man, regardless of birth. Not - What was his station? But - had he a heart? And - How did he play his God-given part? Was he ever ready with a word of good cheer? To bring back a smile, to banish a tear? Not - What was his church? Not - What was his creed? But - Had he befriended those really in need? Not - What did the sketch in the newspaper say? But - How many were sorry when he passed away? These are the things that measure the worth Of a man as a man, regardless of birth. May John rest now. His struggle is over!

Condolence From: Carmen Barron
I can not say anything more than Adele did above. It is obvious that John affected every one of his students in the same way. He truly loved and respected us as and we loved and respected him. What an amazing gift he gave to all of his students....memories that will live on in our heads and hearts. It has been 33 years since I have graduated and I still think of him often and the lessons I learned because of him. It was evident that he loved his work and his community. It was an amazing honor John, so say that I have known you and the things I have learned from your teachings have followed me throughout my life. Rest in Peace my friend.

Condolence From: Adèle L. Boudreau
Tribute To A Teacher We held their hands the first day of school. Our hearts were filled with pride. There was an aura of fear and apprehension As we stood close to their side. We deposited our children at your door, Our most precious and prized possessions. We trusted that you would give them more Then Reading and Writing lessons. ... Our unspoken words were, give them self worth. They are little children, respect their rights. Teach them with love and remember compassion. Use a firm hand to break up their fights. As the years went by, you did us proud With your guiding hand and understanding smile. You gave much more then we expected. That was your way, your undeniable style. What higher tribute can we pay a teacher? To what greater heights can he ascend? Than to have his students praise his work, And to say "He is my friend." - Myrna Beth Lambert It is selfish of me to say but i cannot lie that my heart is broken. John gave more than he ever had to. Not because he was forced but because he felt compelled to make a difference in so many of our lives and our community. All because he truly cared and wanted what was best for all those he met. Even as he retired he continued his support. He helped me through some tough issues even after high school. He was an amazing individual inside and out. I am blessed to have known John and even more blessed with the impact he had on my life! I will try to take comfort in knowing you are no longer suffering John. You will forever hold a special place in my heart!♥
