Thursday, 5 Oct 1944 St. Joseph read:

Killed in Belgium . . . Mrs. G. B. Henderson, rural route No. 5, has received word from the war department that her son, Staff Sergt. Kenneth R. Henderson, 30 years old, was killed in action Sept. 4. Sergeant Henderson was serving with the infantry in Belgium. He entered the service in February 1941, and went overseas in March of this year.

When I was a kid probably in 1945 or 1946, once with a group of kids from Willowbrook, we went to Mrs. Henderson's house and saw Kenneth's Purple Heart that had been given to his mother. I remember she had a big police dog and she said don't act like you are afraid, and he will not bother you. Shirleen Gartin
