Son of Leonard Shannon and Charlotte Brawner.
He married Martha Saphrona Williams Shannon on 12/25/1856 in Franklin County; he was 21.
Father of 2 year-old James D. and 10 month-old William Brooks on 1860 U.S. Census; John Marcellus born just prior to time of death.

Residence Franklin County; farmer; 6' tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair.
Company B "Tugalo Blues" of Franklin County, 15th Georgia Infantry, Toombs' Brigade, Hood's Division, 1st Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, C.S.A.

Enlisted 3/10/1862 at Augusta, Richmond County and was mustered into Company B, 15th GA. as a Private.
Died of pneumonia in camp near Fredericksburg, Virginia.
His widow filed a Settlement Claim 5/26/1863 (co-signed by her father-in-law, Leonard Shannon, as witness) and was paid $113.13.

The 15th Infantry Regiment, organized in the spring of 1861 at Athens, Georgia, contained men from Hancock, Stephens, Elbert, Lamar, Warren, Wilkes, Taliaferro, and Oglethorpe counties.
