Bennett Allen, 18 years old, born in Louisiana, single, and a farmer by occupation, was enlisted by Lt. J. G. Devereaux on May 2, 1862, at Camp Moore, Louisiana, for the war. His place of residence was Livingston Parish, Louisiana.
Company G Muster Rolls for May through December 1863 note that Pvt. Allen was absent, sick. He had been sent to the hospital on July 1, 1863, was captured at Williamsport, Maryland, or South Mountain between July 3 and 6, 1863, though most records say July 5. Pvt. Allen was paroled at Fort McHenry, Maryland, and transferred to Fort Delaware on July 9 and was received there by July 12, 1863. From there Pvt. Allen was sent to Point Lookout, Maryland, on October 26, 1863. On December 2, 1863, he was admitted to U.S.A. Small Pox Hospital at Point Lookout, from the General Hospital. He died there on January 3, 1864.
