Civil War Record Union Army: David Solomon Bailey, at age 26, residence Van Buren County, Iowa, native of Ohio, enlisted on February 18, 1864 in Company G. Third Iowa Calvary. He was wounded severely and lost a leg as a result of a shell that hit his foot on June 10, 1864, while in action at Guntown, MS. The battle was known as Brices Cross Roads. He mustered out September 8, 1865, in Atlanta, GA. then back to Davenport, Iowa. - - Obituary: Mr. Bailey married Sophia Boyd on March 1, 1859. They came to Nebraska in 1874. To this union eight children were born of which 5 survive the father. They are George, Sam, William & Mahala Fowler, all of Elkhorn, Ne. Jackson Bailey of Kendrick, Idaho.
