Arthur Benjamin White died in his sleep, on November 4, 1985 at the age of 98. At that time, he was the oldest living, Home Missionary, commissioned by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Until the day of his death, he walked and rode the bus system all over the city of Amarillo, visiting people and inviting them to become Christians. He was an Elder and Deacon at Grand Avenue Baptist Church.
On the day that he passed away, he had mowed his and his daughter-in-laws yard. He had a garden that he tended and lived by himself after the death of his wife.
A. B. White was born about two miles west of Holladay, Tenn.
He was the first child born to his parents. Resided in or near Holladay until approximately 1901-1902. Moved to Hopkins County Texas approximately 1901-1902.
Died at age of 98 at 1137 S. Trigg, Amarillo, Texas.
Services were at Grand Avenue Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas, November 6, 1985 at 2:00 p.m. Bearers were great-grandsons Bruce & Barry White, D. L. Lack, Paul Payne, Carl Carlile, Charles Abercrombie.
