David was the son of Thomas and Jane (Robinson) Reed. His siblings were: Matthew G, Mariah, Adaline, Stephanas, Hiram, Hester, Rebecca, John, and Martha. He married Mary Roby and they had two children.
David, Stephanas, and Matthew G came to Nebraska after the Homestead Act to claim farm ground.
He divorced and later married Sarah Jane Trulock Lamb - his mail order bride. She was a widow with two children. His first home was a dugout hut on the bank of the "Muddy" Creek.
David and Sarah took in three of Sarah's sister's children, afther she passed in Burlington, IA. They raised Carl, Effie, and Florence Fisk.
