Last rites for Audie ALLEN, who passed away on January 23, were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church with W. C. Bryan conducting the services.
Mr. ALLEN was a World War veteran entering the American Legion Post under the direction of Roy Hoghland, commander, was in charge of the military rites. Interment was in the Ochiltree Cemetery.
Mrs. Ray Veale, pianist, directed the song service which consisted of a quartet selection, "Going Down the Valley," Glenn, Omar and M. W. Truax and Roy Hoghland; solo, "Face to Face," Roy Hoghland; double quartet, "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," Mrs. HJohn Osterbuhr, Mrs. Tom O'Dell, Mrs. J. C. Ebersole, Mrs. Ralph Francis, A. K. Wooten, Robert Lawrence, S. S. Mallett, and I. R. Buchanan.
Pall bearers were A. W. HENRY, Lloyd BLACK, W. M. BOSTON, Sibley JINES, J. W. WODDWORTH, and Kirt WILLIAMS. The firing squad was composed of Omar TRUAX, J. W. HERRELL, Virgil OLMSTEAD, Ray VEALE, Ben PECKENPAUGH, Ernest ALLEN, Herman HARGROVE and Leonard ROBERTSON. Others assisting with the military services were Horace LACKEY, commander at arms; E. W. THOMAS, chaplain; Ernest GYGER, and M. W. TRUAX, color bearers; Harry CAYLER and Roy ORRILL, color guard; Glenn TRUAX and R. W. VEALE, buglers.
Audie Arvel ALLEN was born in Barry County, Missouri in 1893. At the age of twelve, he moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. ALLEN, to Roberts County, Texas and from there to Ochiltree County in 1915.
Audie joined the U. S. Army in July 1918 and was assigned to Co. B. 113 Infantry. In October 1918, he was sent overseas and was in active service there until the close of the war.
On March 5, 1921, Mr. ALLEN was united in marriage to Miss Susie FURNISH of this county and they made their home here unitl 1936, when they moved to Richmond, Calif., where they have since resided. Five daughters were born to this union. One, Reta Maxine, died here in 1930.
Mr. ALLEN became ill in November and was taken to the Veterans Hospital in San Francisco, where he passed away on January 23 at the age of 47 years, 7 months and 23 days.
Survivors are the wife and four daughters, Mrs. C. F. WALKER, Arvel Myrl, Lolabelle, Dona Gail and a son-in-law, all of Richmond; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. ALLEN of this city; three sisters, mrs. Lela KEIM and Mrs. Lloyd FURNISH of Perryton and Mrs. Clem ANDERSON of Albany, Calif.; two nieces, two nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
