Melvin Lloyd Frazier

Melvin Lloyd Frazier, 78, of Sioux City, IA passed away Sunday, October 28, 2001 at a Sergeant Bluff nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Frazier was born November 14, 1922, in Santee, Nebraska, the son of Sam Frazier and Olive Chase.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a radio operator and ball turret gunner. He was a prisoner of war in Germany and had received the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals.
He married Rachel Frazier. She passed away February 18, 1998 in Santee.
Melvin had worked for Armour and Co. and Strange Brothers for several years. He was a member of St. Paul Indian Mission and was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include three sons; Ronald Gene Frazier of Winnebago, Nebraska, Robert M. Frazier and Kenneth Frazier, both of Sioux City, three daughters; Juanita, Myra and Brenda Frazier, all of Sioux City, a brother; Robert Chase of Newport, Oregon, two sisters; Lavonne Gmeinder of Sergeant Bluff, and Caroline Besett of Sioux City, a half brother; Curtis Frazier of Santee; 34 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.,
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Milton; a daughter, Gladys; two brothers, Gerald and Joseph "Smiley" Frazier; three granddaughters; and two grandsons.
Pallbearers will be Art Denney, Chris Denney, Robert S. Frazier, Wyatt Thomas, Ron Thomas, and Rick Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Thomas, Willard Mackey, Raymond Thomas, Emil Goodteacher, Pat Wabashaw, Jack Wabashaw, Richard Balvin, Richard LaPoint and Carmen Medina.
Services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, at the gym in Santee, Nebraska, with the Rev. David Hussey of Our Most Merciful Saviour Episcopal Church in Santee officiating. Burial will be in Holy Faith Cemetery, Lindy, Nebraska, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Benner-Lawrence Post #4834 and American Legion Post #224 of Niobrara, Nebraska. Visitation will be 2 p.m. today until service time, Wednesday, at the gym in Santee. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.
