Peter Brinig was born May 17, 1891 to Moses and Rebecca Brinig. According to Leroy Stricker, Peter married Anna Johanna (Wiese) Brinig. They were the parents of Peter Charles and Jacqueline Brinig.

Peter's brother Myron was a famous and celebrated novelist in the early 20th century whose books portrayed growing up Jewish in Butte and his memories of the raucous mining town. Many of his main characters were inspired by his family and neighbors.
