"Services will be Thursday at 1 at St. Philip Catholic Church in Philipsburg for Butte native and former Philipsburg resident, Hugh F. "Jug" Carlin, 66 of Missoula. Burial will be in the Philipsburg cemetery.
Mr. Carlin died Sunday at the Missoula Community Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born August 19, 1926 to Patrick and Veronica Carlin in Butte. He was orphaned as a child and was raised in a Catholic orphanage near Helena. He started to work in mining at age 17.
He married Margery Storer in 1953 in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. She died in 1976.
He worked in several areas before settling in Philipsburg in 1954, where he worked in the mines, and also served as the undersheriff of Granite County. Injuries forced his retirement to Missoula in 1990.
He enjoyed children, animals and mining and had a special love of Philipsburg.
