Hamilton was the son of Luther Thomas and Malisse Ann Ferguson Cook. His parents are buried in Davis Cemetery near Grapeland, TX. He was a member of the Odd Fellow's Lodge and a co-owner of Cook's Automotive in Palestine, TX. He shares a stone with his wife, Daisy Main Cook. He died 1 November 1999 at his home in Palestine. He was survived by his wife; two daughters, Patricia Ann Cook Bishop and Marilyn Cook Hudson, both of Palestine; two sisters, Ollie Dovie Cook Ashby of Lufkin and Ella Marie Cook Ward of Weatherford; one brother, Jimmy Cook of Palestine; and two grandchildren. His obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press in November 1999.
