"Janet Elaine (Skoglund) Bartles, passed away after a long fight with cancer Monday March the 12th 2012. She did so with dignity, her son and husband were at her side as she let go of this earthly existence. Janet began life May 28, 1947 and as a little girl lived on 37th street in Austin just off the drag. Her parents were Swen and Dorothy Skoglund. She attended the old Baker elementary and junior high schools and was a graduate of McCallum High School. Janet attended what is now known as Texas State University. She married Gillis Bartles, August 19, 1967 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Janet had a long and productive career at the City of Austin, beginning as a clerk typist, for the water and waste water department, and steadily advanced her position. She worked for many years in the budget and financial sections of the City, and often addressed council on budget issues. She retired recently as her health began to fail. Janet was elected to the City of Austin employee's retirement board several times. She held public office as an elected member of the City of Cedar Park City Council, and did so without the thought of furthering her political career. Her chosen career was public service - first and foremost. She believed the public was to be held always in high esteem. After her service to the community as a city council member, she continued to serve on several boards and commissions and was very active as the treasurer of the City of Cedar Park Veterans Memorial Park Fund Raising committee, until her health began to decline. She attended New Hope First Baptist church, of Cedar Park, and was active almost to the end with teaching children's Sunday School. Janet is survived by her son, Gannon Bartles and his wife Sylvia of Pflugerville; and her husband, Gillis Bartles of Cedar Park. She is also survived by cousins, David Skoglund of Austin, Jim and Joe Gameson of Mission, Kansas, and Pat Hilbig of Manchaca. She impacted many lives in Austin and Cedar Park and will be sorely missed but not forgotten...."
