Walter D. Carper 69, also know as Non-Stop Charlie, of Tyrone RD 1, died at 11:40 am Wednesday, May 31, 1989 at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center, after an extended illness. Mr. Carper retired as a truck driver from Earthmovers Unlimited, Tyrone RD 1, in 1984. Prior to that he was self-employed in the trucking business for several years and was a truck driver for Narehood Limestone, Tyrone, for 10 years. He was born Jan 6, 1920, in Tyrone RD 1, the son of Adolphus M. Carper and Lottie J. Reeder, and was twice married, first to Hazel Coover, who preceded him in death, and then July 2, 1955, in Bedford Ind., to Roberta J. Brock.
Surviving are his wife, seven children: Bernice Bennett, Michael and Joyce Snyder of Tyrone, Walter B. Jr. of Bellefonte, Rita Riggleman and Roy of Tyrone RD 1 and Herman of Kittanning; and 15 grandchildren.
Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters: Olive Ritter of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Verna Harpst of Dillsburg, Theodore, Clarence and Maxine Peters of Tyrone, Chalmer of Frenchville, Pauline Khalouf of Duncansville, Marie Williams of Port Matilda and Geraldine Light of Sandy Ridge.
Mr. Carper was a member of Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Volunteer Fire Company, Tyrone; Tyrone Moose Lodge and Anderson-Denny VFW Post, Tyrone.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a technician 5th Grade with the 3769th Quartermaster Truck Company in the Asiatic and European Campaigns.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Theodore J. Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, by the Rev. Charles J. Swenson. Interment with military honors at Burket Cemetery, Warriors Mark.
