Well Known Soldier and Citizen of Huntingdon Furnace Dead.
On Saturday morning at 10:45 O'clock Adam Carper, one of the best known and highly respected citizens of Huntingdon Furnace, Huntingdon county, passed peacefully into the eternal world. Mr. Carper had been ill the past four months with a complication of diseases, his condition gradually growing weaker until life ended.
Adam Carper was a son of Philip and Catherine (Krape) Carper, and was born in Centre county June 25, 1841. On January 11, 1866 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna E. Whippo, who with the following children survive to mourn a loving husband and fathers death:
John, Franklinville; Mrs. Catherine Bronson, Stockton, Kansas; George E., Warriors Mark; William T., Water Street; Philip A., Union Furnace; Miles G., Warriors Mark, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Smith, Waterloo Iowa; Charles K., Spruce Creek; Samuel, Juniata; Adolf, Mt. Union; and Adam, Franklinville.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lena Crownover, of State College and Mrs. Catherine Young of Markelsburg.
Mr. Carper followed the honorable occupation of the farmer until he retired almost eighteen years ago. When the Civil was broke out in '61 he enlisted in Troop F second Pennsylvania cavalry and served three years when he was honorable discharged, December 26, 1864 in Petersburg Virgina.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock in the Methodist church at Huntingdon Furnace, conducted by Rev. Willis Willard assisted by Victor Nearhoof. Interment at Warriors Mark.
