Leo J. Algeo, 87, of Stow, formerly of Lincoln, retired Lincoln Police and Fire Chief died Thursday August 6, 2009 at Concord Health Care Center. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of Elaine T. (Costello) Algeo.
Born in Lincoln on May 22, 1922 he was the son of the late John O. and Mary Alice (Dee) Algeo. He attended Lincoln schools and was a 1940 graduate of Concord High School.
During World War II, he served as a Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps, stationed in Labrador and the Pacific theatre.
Mr. Algeo retired in 1970 after twenty-one years as Police Chief and later as Fire Chief of the Town of Lincoln. He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association. He was a member of the Lincoln American Legion Post and Maynard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was one of the organizers and founders of the Lincoln Boys Baseball League and Lincoln Junior Rifle Club and was active in the Lincoln Boy scouts. He became a resident of Stow in 1990.
In addition to his wife Elaine, survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Algeo Lucas, and Mary Elaine Algeo, three sons, Leo J. Algeo Jr., Timothy P. Algeo and his wife Maria, and Kevin P. Algeo and his wife Doreen.
Grandfather to nine grandchildren, one great grandson. Brother to Alice Ford and the late Margaret M. Algeo and John T. Algeo.
