Byron Eugene McKinnon, 75, Mesa AZ, died on Wednesday, December 13, 2000. He was born January 2, 1925 in Randolph, Utah. He married the girl he met in kindergarten, Ella Mae Bingham, on June 19, 1944.
Byron Graduated from Utah State University and received his Master's degree from Washington State University in Administration and Guidance and Counseling. He was Director of Guidance Services for Mesa Public Schools for 18 years until retirement in 1985. He was named to several organizations as a result of his pioneering in special programs in the Mesa Schools. Some of the programs in which he was instrumental in developing and implementing include: Opportunity Hall, Indian Teacher's Aid Program, Op Shop, Mesa Youth Placement Service, Special Education Flow Chart and a district-wide child abuse program. Many of these programs still exist.
Byron had a passion for life and got the most joy out of being with his family and service in the community. When he wasn't raising cattle, gardening, or fixing tractors, he was playing with his great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved. He will be greatly missed.
