In the U.S. 1930 Census he was a dry goods store proprietor. He married Laura Edna Marshall Schaefer who is located next to him at the Vacaville Elmira Cemetery. They had one daughter Laura M. Schaefer who was born in 1911. The couple helped Pauline Robbins, a friend, find her final resting place in their cemetery plot.
