Presidential First Lady. Born Rosalynn Smith, she married future President James Earl 'Jimmy' Carter in 1946. She served as the United States First Lady from January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981. She also served as the Honorary Chairperson of the President's Commission on Mental Health from 1977 to 1978, and Vice Chair of the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia, from 1982 to present. In 1984 Carter released her autobiography entitled, "First Lady From Plains."
