George W. Baird's pension card shows his service in "A 9 Iowa Cav." and "A 35 Iowa Inf." His widow, Emma L. Baird filed for a pension on 25 November 1907.

George W. Baird, age 18, enlisted as a private on 4 August 1862, and on 29 August 1862 mustered in Company A, 35th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Private Baird was discharged for disability on 10 January 1863 at Mound City, Illinois.

He re-enlisted as a private on 25 September 1863, and mustered in Company A, 9th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Cavalry. Private Baird mustered out on 28 February 1866 at Little Rock, Arkansas.
