Lavada, the second of six children, was born in Calf Creek to Cafford Oren and Sally K. (Attaway) Bingham. Her siblings were Lela Victoria, Esta, Robert Owen, Johnnie Mack and Otha Marie.

Lavada, who lived in Brady her entire life, was a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She married Tom Duncan on December 29, 1932, and became the mother of three children, Peggy Jo, Barbara, and Myrl. Lavada belonged to the Bible Baptist Church.

Surviving at her death were her husband, Tom of Brady; a daughter, Barbara Vaughn of South Lake; a son, Myrl Duncan of Houston; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a sister, Lela; a brother, Robert; and possibly another sister, Esta.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy; a sister, Otha Marie, who died in infancy; and a brother, Johnnie Mack, who died at the age of four.
