Birth: 1800, Ireland
Death: 1857

James Kennedy Jr. was born in Ireland in abt 1800. At some unknown time John and his one known sibling James moved to England.

On 14 Apr 1828 James married Margaret Cotterall in Cathedral Church, Manchester, England.

In about 1834 the families of both James and John came to America. In January of 1835 they were living in Erie, PA. Family lore has it that the brothers worked on the Erie Canal.

James and Margaret had 6 known children all born in Erie, PA between 1835 and 1844.

1. John, 1835-1909 IL, 9 children
2. Thomas, 1837-1913 NM, never married
3. Barney, 1838-1864, never married, died at Andersonville in the Civil War.
4. Mary Ellen, 1840-1898 IL, never married
5. Anna, 1842-1919 CO, m1 Gannon 3 ch, m2 Cavenaugh
6. Cecilia, 1844-1928 OK, m Bobbitt, 5 ch

The 1840 census shows the families living in Allegheny County, PA just outside present day Pittsburgh.

By 1845 both brothers and their families had moved to Illinois. Per their son John, they stopped briefly in Detroit and moved on to Chicago. They lived in Chicago for a short time and then migrated down to Marshall County, IL.

In 1857, while living in Marshall County, James and Margaret were victims of a diphtheria epidemic. As their means were modest they had to be buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in Marshall/Woodford Co, IL.
