Birth: Oct. 2, 1837
Death: Apr. 1, 1920
Wayne County
Michigan, USA

Anna Katherine Stellmacher was the daughter of John Stellmacher. She was born in Danzig, Prussia, (present day Gdansk, Poland). Anna was Roman Catholic.

Some info on the Stellmacher name in Michigan: There was an untraceable Matilde Stellmacher who was her son August's God Mother in 1871. Nothing is known connecting the other Stellmachers living in Detroit. Matilde could not be found in any other records before or after 1871.

{No connection has been made to an Otto R. Stellmacher. In 1870 Otto came to America, married Bertha Lutzke in Wisconsin. In 1880-97 he and his family were in Detroit where he worked as a baker. By 1900 he had moved to St Louis, MO.}

(Note, there was a Mathida Stellmacher living in Midland County but she was born in 1866, thus to young to be a God Mother in 1871.)

Back to Anna, she married John Hanneman in about 1858 in Prussia. On 1 Sep 1869 the couple and their son Gustav arrived in NY from Germany on the S.S. America. The first records then found are the 1870 Census and Detroit city directory which shows the family living in the lower east side of Detroit.

While the couple had 12 children only 4 survived to adulthood, (Gustav, Helena, Theresa & John - all 4 are buried in this cemetery). Four of Anna's children died in Germany before coming to America and four of the seven children born in Detroit died when they were very young. So many deaths of their young children, it must have been very hard for Anna & John.

After arriving in Detroit the couple settled in the lower East side of Detroit. While they lived in many homes all of them were close to Gratiot Ave and within a 2 mile radius.

In later years Anna & John lived with their daughter Theresa. Anna is buried with her husband John and in between her daughter Theresa and her son John.

In 2005 the marker on this grave was provided by Anna's Great Grandson Roger Hanneman, (Grandson of John, Son of Raymond).
