Mr. John Daniel Burke, age 92, of Lynn, died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary M. (Condon) Burke.
Born in Lynn, Dan, as he was known by most, grew up in Saugus, and was the son of the late John J. and Bridget (Stanton) Burke. He graduated from Saugus High School, and lived in Lynn for the past 62 years.
He was a member of the National Guard, then entered the Army, serving during WWII in the Americal Division for four years in the South Pacific. He worked as a master electrician for General Electric for 43 years. He started at the Everett Foundry and then worked at the River Works Plant before retiring in 1979. He was a longtime member of I.U.E. Local 201, AFL-CIO and served on their Board of Directors.
His whole adult life was spent helping others. He took care of his siblings and their families, neighbors, friends and co-workers alike. Dan was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was very involved in the parish. He was a longtime usher at the 10:00 AM Mass on Sundays, stopping only five weeks ago. He helped the Sisters of St. Joseph, volunteering continuously with repair work in the Sacred Heart Convent. Also, his efforts on behalf of the Little Sisters of the Assumption at their convent on Lynn Shore Drive are still remembered by these devoted Sisters.
Dan was the brother of the late William Burke, Eileen Corazzini, Loretta Keilty, Ruth Fleet and Marie Marshall, and leaves sisters-in-law Marie Burke of Lynn and Sr. Mary Dominic, C.S.J. of Framingham, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 AM from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home 157 Maple Street Lynn. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn at 9 AM. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours today, Friday 5-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to Sacred Heart Church, 571 Boston Street, Lynn, MA 01905
