Son of Robert Edward and Lennie Lue Giles Hopkins Sr. He married Helen M. Holmes on Aug. 29, 1948, in Delavan and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Richard (Julie) Hopkins; three daughters, Carrol (John) Lewis, Marie Hopkins, and Nancy Hopkins; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert E. Hopkins Jr. and Lawrence G. Hopkins; and one sister, Elizabeth Coleman.
He served on the board of directors of the Green Valley Co-op and as a trustee for Dillon Township. He farmed in the Delavan and Green Valley area for most of his life.
Mr. Hopkins served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, American Division. He participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received while fighting at Mindanao. He also served in the Japanese Islands during the occupation. He was honorably discharged with the rank of T-5.
