Philip Lough, a son of Johann George and Mary Magdalene (Siehl) Lough, was born in Pendleton County VA September 26, 1793 and died in Lewis County WV April 4, 1872. He married Sarah "Sally" Fisher August 9, 1820 in Lewis County VA. Sally, a daughter of George and Mary (Butcher) Fisher, was born in VA about 1810.

During the War of 1812, Philip was drafted into Captain Jonathan Wamsley's Company of VA Militia, marched to Richmond VA from Beverly, VA and took a boat to Norfolk, VA. He was stationed at the rear of Camp Fort Barbour, where he was taken ill. His uncle, John Brady, came to him with a paper saying that Philip could leave the service, seek medical help and return. This he did. When he returned, he was informed that the war was over, so he returned home to Lewis County.
