BOONE, BROTHER KIRBY, C. F. X., 84, of Louisville, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010 at Golden Living Center Hillcreek.
Brother Kirby was a 1944 graduate of St. Xavier High School, received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Catholic University of America in 1953 and a Master of Arts degree in 1968 from the same school.
From 1953-1960 he taught at St. Joseph's Prep in Bardstown, KY, 1960-1974 at Flaget High School in Louisville, 1969-1974 he was principal at Flaget High School, 1974-1976 St. Francis Mission in South Dakota, 1976-1986 Mount St. Joseph's High School in Baltimore, MD, 1986-1988 Holy Family High School in Birmingham, AL, 1988-1990 St Francis Mission in South Dakota, 1990-1996 in Ruby, AK, 1996-2006 pastoral minister in Tanana and McGrath, AK until his retirement in 2006. He was also a U. S. Air Force veteran of World War II.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank Edmund and Mary Martina Boone; and his siblings, Dave Boone, Charles E. Boone, Louis Boone, Mary Rose Osborne, Frank Boone and John E. Boone.
Survivors include his brothers, Joseph E. Boone, Brother Martin Boone, C.F.X., Patrick Boone and George Boone; as well as 40 nieces and nephews; and 96 grandnephews and grandnieces. He is also survived by his Xaverian community.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 3926 Poplar Level Road, with burial to follow in the Xaverian Cemetery at St. Xavier High School. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of St. Xavier High School, 1609 Poplar Level Road and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church. Arrangements entrusted to Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home.
