William D. Cannon, 50, of Oneonta, and formerly of Burlington Flats, died Jan. 31, 2003, after a lengthy illness at his residence. He was born Feb. 29, 1952, in Brooklyn, the son of Edward and Clara (Kopcinski) Cannon, who survive. He married Bernadette Butler on March 23, 1974, on Long Island. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had been an 18-year area resident. He had been a former employee of the U.S. Postal Service. He was an honorable life member of the Disabled America Veterans associations, and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta. He is survived by his wife, and his parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Joseph Harkenreader; and a son, Timothy M. Cannon, all of Oneonta; a grandchild, Taylor Harkenreader; a sister and brother-in-law, Maryellen and James Angell, and their daughter, Claire, of Commack. He was predeceased by a brother, Timmothy Cannon. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 3, 2003, when the family will be in attendance, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch officiating. Burial will be later in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. Those who wish may make contributions to the Catskill Area Hospice.
