AUSTIN -- The funeral for Mavis E. Behn will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Austin. The Rev. R. Allan Flint will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Mrs. Behn, 72, a former area farm homemaker, died Thursday (April 3, 1997) at Comforcare Care Center in Austin of complications of amytrophic lateral sclerosis.
Mavis Elizabeth Nyenhuis was born Feb. 2, 1925, near Albert Lea and grew up in the Oakland and Moscow areas. After graduating from Austin High School in 1943, she lived and worked in Austin and then in California for 1 years. On Dec. 16, 1949, she married Daryl D. Behn at Oakland Baptist Church, and they farmed in the Oakland area until their retirements in 1989. The couple spent winters in Arizona for 15 years. She was an active member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Paul of Austin; a daughter, Caryl (Mrs. Craig) Benedix of Kasson; four grandchildren; three stepgranddaughters; a step-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Roger) Will of Dana Point, Calif., and Darlene (Mrs. Don) Aakre of Austin.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
