One of 10 children of William, Sr. and Mary Welsh Mackey, she was born shortly after they moved the family from South Carolina. In 1798 the area where she was born became Barren County.
The family name appears as MACKEY in earliest census records of South Carolina. Later McKee and McKey are found. The replaced gravestones all read McKEY.
She married Sherrod Bybee in Barren Co. Kentucky on 14 Sep 1803. (other records say 26 Feb.) No record of children has been found
