Richard Whistler, 55
Richard L. Whistler of Englewood died suddenly on Dec. 1, 1991.
He was the Executive Manager of the Dayton Masonic Temple and had retired in 1988 as superintendent of Northmont City Schools having served since 1973, and was on the staff since 1965. He was currently a Randolph Twp. Trustee, on the Administrative Board of Concord United Methodist Church serving as chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, Board member of Friends of Aullwood, and Trustee of Victoria Theatre Association.
Mr. Whistler was a graduate of Manchester College, receiving his Masters degree at Ball State University, and Post Graduate courses from Miami, Xavier and University of Dayton.
He formerly served many community organizations as Big Bear District Chairman of Miami Valley Council of Boy Scouts, Past President of Englewood-Northmont Chamber of Commerce; Board member of Northwest YMCA and Good Samaritan Community Health Advisory Board. He was Past President and Charter Member of Northmont Rotary Club having been honored as Rotarian of the Year in 1984-85; and formerly served as Scholarship Chairman of the District Rotary Foundation Committee. He was also honored by BASA as Exemplary Educational Leadership Award in 1986; National School Public Relations "Friend of Education" Award in 1988 and held membership in Turpen Lodge No. 401 F&AM, Union City, Ind., Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, and High Twelve No. 69.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph in 1983.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou; mother, Wilma Whistler, Union City, Ind.; daughter and son-in-law Kandace and Paul Wilms, Englewood; son and daughter-in-law Kent and Jennifer Whistler, Toledo; grandchildren Paul Wilms and Hannah Whistler; sister Kathy Winan, Union City, Ind.; brothers Steve Whistler of Rochester, Ind.; and Doug Whistler, Losantville, Ind.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Thursday at Concord United Methodist Church, 1123 S. Main St., Englewood, with the Rev. Ken Streitenberger officiating.
Scottish Rite Ring Ceremony will also be presented at 10:30 am. Interment will be Concord Cemetery.
