Memorial Services for Staff Sgt. Lawrence H. Brown, Jr.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 6, at 3:30 P.M. at the East Point Christian Church for Staff Sgt. Lawrence H. Brown, Jr., who was killed in action in Normandy June 16. Rev. R. O. Weaver will conduct the services. His wife, the former Miss Lurline Leach, and daughter, Miriam, 9 months old, reside with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.Frank Leach, 706 N. Main Street, East Point. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence H. Brown, Sr.; two sisters, Miss Doris Brown and Mrs. B. E. Johnson; and a brother, Seaman 1/c E. T. Brown, stationed at San Diego, Calif. Staff Sgt. Brown was born in East Point, attended Russell High School and was employed by Anderson-Clayton Cotton Company before entering the service in April 1942. He went overseas in November 1943 and was with a Parachute Battalion. He was a member of the East Point Christian Church.

Graveside Services Set Here Sunday for Staff Sgt. L. H. Brown Graveside services for Staff Sergeant Lawrence (Larry) H. Brown, Jr., who was killed while serving with the United States Army in France on June 16, 1944, will be held this Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at Hillcrest Cemetery. Sgt. Brown attended Russell High School in East Point and was employed by Anderson Clayton Company at the time he enlisted in the Paratroopers April 1, 1942 at the age of 24. He was attached to the 82nd Airborn Division and left this country for overseas services on December 6, 1943. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Lurline Leach; little daughter, Miriam; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence H. (jack) Brown, Sr.; sisters, Mrs. Frances Johnson and Mrs. Doris Mays; and a brother, Emory T. Brown. Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7007 and American Legion Post No. 51 of East Point will be honorary escorts and East Point Masonic Lodge No. 288 will have charge of services at the grave. Pallbearers will be Mr. New W. Cartledge, Mr. Thomas Burris, Mr. Frank Leach, Mr. Pontius Leach, Mr. B. E. Johnson and Mr. Marlin Mays. They are requested to meet at the residence, 203 Newnan Avenue, at 4 p.m. Dr. W. A. Duncan will officiate at the services which are under the direction of Howard L. Carmichael and Sons.
