Professional Baseball Player. Nicknamed "The Hammer", he was selected by the New York Mets in the 1968 amateur draft. In September, 1971 the Mets promoted him to their major league roster and in 1972 he hit 17 homeruns as a part-time player. In 1973 he was the regular firstbaseman and hit 23 homeruns with 72 RBI's helping the Mets win the National League pennant. He was also the regular firstbaseman in 1974 and hit 20 homeruns but in 1976 he was moved to the outfield. On December 8, 1977 the Mets traded him to the Pittsburgh Pirates as part of a 4-team trade. In 1979 he hit .276 with 16 homeruns as a member of the Pirates and hit .333 in the World Series helping the Pirates defeat the Baltimore Orioles in 7 games. His final season in the major leagues was 1982. He finished his career with a .249 batting average and 131 homeruns.  (bio by: Decal)
