He was born to the late Newton A. and Mary Helen (Baxter) Brannen. He was an Army paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He married Clemoveta G. Harris, who preceded her in death.

Mr. Brannen retired from Tulox Plastics as a machine operator. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, AMVETS Post 5 and was a connoisseur of the Jim Dandy restaurant.

Survivors include daughters, Linda D. (Larry) Haskett and Cheryl A. (Bill) Shook, both of Marion; a son, Steven D. Bennett, Marion; siblings, Tom, Bill, Jim, Robert, Wayne and Jerry Brannen, Dorothy Martin, Mary Lou Stickler, Carol Wyrick and Becky Carter; grandchildren, John Sosh, Jeremy Scott, Kristina Clement, Heather Lewis, Thea Haskett and Sherrie R. Bennett; and a daughter-in-law, Dona Gandee.

He also was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Brannen.
