OBITUARY:

D. Clayton Hardman

Chenoa- D. Clayton Hardman, 87 of Chenoa, formerly of Lexington and St. Joseph, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday (July 16, 2004) at Meadows Mennonite Home, Chenoa, where he had been a resident.

A graveside inturnment will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, with the Rev. Jack Nicolay officiating. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday at First United Church of Gridley. Cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial may be made to the Alzheimer's Unit at Meadows Mennonite Home or to the First United Church of Gridley.

Calvert & Froelich Memorial Home, Gridley, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Lexington, the son of Dorsey and Bertha Ralston Hardman. He married OraBelle Cope in January, 1937. He later married Janet Hefner on July 19, 1963, in Bloomington. She died Oct 26, 1999.

Surviving is one son, Lorraine Hardman, Sebring, Fla; one daughter, Karen Hardman, Lexington; two sisters, Martha Hardman and Marguerite Witzig, both of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Marcie Hardman, Robin Hardman, Theresa Beshears, Lori Ruiz, Alan Hardman, Tal Hardman and Lynette Leake; 11 great-grandchildren; four nieces and nephews, Margaret Elder Quinley, Martha Elder Nelson, David C. Elder and John Jay Hefner; and eight great-nieces and -nephews.

He also was preceded in death by both of his parents and one son, Larry Hardman.

He was a member of the First United Church of Gridley.

Retiring in February of 1981, he had been a longtime farmer, an International Harvester dealer in Lexington and sold Sun Prairie Seed Corn.

He was on the city council in Lexington and St. Joseph. He was a member of the Lions Club and active in many civic activities. He was a loving family man and Christian.
