Preston L. Allison, 87, went to rest the afternoon of February 28, 2010, at Barbara J. Egan Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Shrewsbury, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Eleanor J. 'Ellie' (Montgomery) Allison, to whom he was married 63 years.
He was born October 12, 1924, in Shrewsbury, a son of the late Albert J. and Mary (Attig) Allison.
Preston was Postmaster for 30 years at the Shrewsbury Post Office, retiring in 1985. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, serving during WWII. He was a member of the PA Chapter of National Assoc. of Postmasters of the United States, Alexandria, Va. He was a lifelong member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church and served as a former Church Council member and Secretary of the Sunday School. Preston was also a former lifelong member of Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company, and a 50 year member of Shrewsbury Lodge #423 F & AM. He was a former Chairman of the Shrewsbury Borough Authority during planning and construction of the Wastewater Treatment System. Preston also was past president of the Shrewsbury Lions Club. Preston enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter, and golfing at Bon Air Country Club, Glen Rock, and once had a "hole in one" at Pleasant Valley Golf Course, Stewartstown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Randy L. Allison and his wife, Rosemarie of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Carla S. Chilcoat and her husband, Ken of Seven Valleys; four grandchildren, Brian Allison and his wife, Katie of Red Lion, and Craig Allison and his wife, Amanda of Dallastown, Matthew Chilcoat and his wife, Lisa of Seven Valleys, Jennifer Buffington and her husband, Aaron of Glenville. Also survived by a great-granddaughter, Lauren Chilcoat; and two sisters-in-law, Laura and Betty Allison. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Grover and Glenn Allison; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Allison.
Intermemnt will be in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Shrewsbury, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
