Wilma Jean Jones Odom, a resident of the Mt. Joy Community and a faithful member of the Church of Christ, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the age of 82.

Wilma Jean was born November 29, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, the only child of her father, Buster L. Jones, and her mother, Lelia Mattie Whitwell. Her childhood was spent in Mt. Pleasant where she graduated from Hay Long High School in 1951. She was a graduate of Columbia Business College and worked for Sims Insurance Company and later Wagster Drugs and Mt. Pleasant High School. In 1953, she married William A. Odom, and they moved to the farm on West Fork Creek where they lived for the rest of their lives. He preceded in her death in October of 1995. Their marriage produced three sons, Gerald Odom of Nashville, Tennessee, Randall Odom of Columbia Tennessee, twin Ronald Odom (deceased), grandsons Brad (Amberley) Odom and Jeremy (Ginny) Odom of Nashville Tennessee, and two great-grandsons, Kyle and Taylor Odom.

Throughout her life, Wilma was an active church member and involved in many community activities including the Board of Directors of the Mt. Pleasant Museum, member of the Post 10 American Legion, and the Maury Regional Hospital Auxiliary. Wilma was a vital part of her extended family and hosted an annual Whitwell Family Reunion at her home on West Fork for over thirty years. She was a “mother” and mentor to many people both in her family and the community. She believed in living her life knowing that material things are not as important as family and friends.

The Celebration of Life service will be conducted Monday July 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with burial to follow at Arlington Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2015 and Noon to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Rev. Dwight Liles will lead the Celebration Service.

Pallbearers are Mike Whitwell, Terry Whitwell, Jimmy Hines, Steve McCain, Gary Hunt, Jeff Beard, Ken McArthur and Glenn Butler. Honorary Pall Bearers are David Akers, Bootie Whitwell, David Hinson, Orin and Mary Lois Short, Dr. Kelly Snyder and Staff, Dr. Srikar Reddy, Ron and Becky Davis, Loren Butler, Vickie Johnson, Susan Boshears, Savannah Boshears, Becky Smith, Jeanette Moon, Howard and Margaret Norman, Judy Anderson, Ruth Floyd, Randall and Fay Wyatt, Special Care-Givers Debbie Whitwell and Tammy Legg, Hay Long High School Class of 1951, Mt. Pleasant Museum Board of Directors and her life-long and devoted friend, W.M. Jaggers.
