Parents were Joshua Hawthorn Jr and Nancy King Hawthorn of Conecuh County, AL.
Dolph married Martha Caroline Page Fletcher. She was a widow with one boy by 1857 when they married.
They moved to Panola County, TX with the Page family prior to the Civil War.
He enlisted with 11th Texas Infantry under Jordan.
Dolph died at Camp Nelson and Martha's brother Stephen Pillie Page wrote home to her parents, Kinchen and Cyrena Page, to tell "Sis" of his death. The letter is dated Camp Nelson, Nov 11, 1862. The original letter is on file at Old Jail Museum in Carthage, TX.
